Artistic Statement

I am a human first and dancer second. I believe dance comes from the depths of the body’s subconscious to express its wisdom suppressed by the mind’s ego. Movement improvisation is the core of my artistic language and through embracing my body’s natural tendencies and cravings, I am able to create authentic movement that defines me as a human being. I believe that dance is communal. It is a form of communication that reaches beyond the superficiality of words to influence a bodily response; one that is continually hindered by outside thoughts but is encouraged in an accepting space.

As an interdisciplinary artist, I strive to connect to my viewers with a humanistic lens. By acknowledging humanistic traits first, the singular commonality between individuals, I aim to dismantle preexisting hierarchies and expectations to promote curiosity and personal interpretation.

Teaching Philosophy

As a teacher, I strive to foster a community within the studio that promotes inclusivity, safety, and accessibility for each of my students. My teaching practices are rooted in improvisational movement to encourage individuality and deepen kinesthetic awareness. I recognize that although I may play the role of teacher at times, I will always be a student of life and therefore learn just as much from my students as they learn from me. It is important to me that students leave my class feeling present, refreshed, aware, and in tune with their bodies.
